Week 13 ELL
Reading the reading rockets site was a very interesting read. Throughout the videos and articles I read, I noticed some common threads that ran through all of them. One of them, was the important point of providing ELL's with the proper learning environment. ELLs need to feel challenged, but the work needs to be doable. ELL's need encouragement. ELL's need to feel welcome in class. ELL's need extra help to learn, such as visual aids. When working with my ELL, I try to incorporate the proper learning environment with components like these to provide optimal learning. I try to challenge my student, yet I make sure that I not challenging her too much. I give constant words of encouragement (which I find helpful for any kind of student- who doesn't want to feel like they did a good job?). I make my student feel welcome. I also teach my student with multi-modal education, so that she can learn to read with many different entry points- visuals, videos, pictures, coloring,...
