Week 12 Assignment 2
Summary:
Integrating technology into literacy can be very beneficial. It makes things more fun for the students. Digital storybooks are a great forum for students to use technology to publish their work. A site that I liked and would incorporate into my classroom is Kidpix. Students write a story, and pick all sorts of animations to go along with the story. The story they wrote comes alive! This makes writing even more fun. Additionally, digital books can be used for specific content areas and in any grades: cookbooks for math, books about what they learned in science, etc.
Another point about integrating technology into literacy class is that it prepares students for post-school years, when they will need to be familiar with ICT. Even young students can begin using the internet (supervised) and word processing documents for their work (I remember doing this as a kid!). I would definitely promote usage of ICTs in my class.
