Week 2 Assignment 2

To test our young students to see if they succeeded with the common core requirements, I would do various assessments, including IRI, running record, rubric-graded-writing assignments, and informally assessing students during class readings/discussions and literature circles.

A QRI is an informal reading inventory and is used to assess readers’ levels. Teachers provide students with word lists of their grade level. The teacher uses the results of these word lists to assess students’ levels. With the results, the teacher can group students according to level, know what to teach, help the students, or go on with the QRI to read a short paragraph of the student’s correct level. Week 4 Assignment 1

An RTI, or Response to intervention, is early intervention for students with learning disabilities. The main facet of RTI are the multiple tiers. Parental involvement and professionalism are important throughout the tiers. There are 3 tiers in an RTI. Tier 1 is the 1st step and lowest tier involves little intervention. Students are given excellent instruction to rule out the possibility of bad instruction causing students to be lacking in knowledge. Students are screened to see their progress. This goes on for a certain period of time, usually about 8 weeks. If students are not up to par, they are moved to tier 2. In tier 2, students receive instruction based on their needs. It can be done in different group sizes and different frequencies. This step usually lasts about 8 weeks.
