Week 2
I really enjoyed watching these videos. I see the importance of starting young children reading...even when they are babies! The video of the little babies recognizing the difference in phonemes is really amazing. Having two small babies- one 2 week old and one 16 month old- I try start them communicating/reading young! With the 16 month old, I read her a lot of books. I started her on books when she was very young (with the small baby Einstein books). She was hooked immediately! Ever since then she loves to read, both alone and with me. With my newborn, I work on talking to him. I catch his gaze and then talk slowly to him. He really listens! Soon, I can start pointing out some letters to my big girl, like Mira's parents did to her. However, it is important not to push it- we wouldn't want small children to develop an aversion to reading. Parents/educators need to gage if the child enjoys reading young or not.
